I was given an ARC version of this book in exchange of an honest review. The third book begin where we left and show us how low love, lust and base instinct can cause death or a nation to be enslaved. The plot is simply magnificent, I had to read the first two books to really see what the author did there in the third. The culmination of the Sistina's awakening, Lily entering her dungeon and living here until Phynis rescue party discover them in turn... all the cornerstones of the actions show descent scenario planning. The antagonist Ulvian was in a strong position in the first and second book, he showed frightening planning abilities! I thought the author made him too strong, but seeing everything slipping from his hands like sand was so, so satisfying! I never hated someone this much than this man. How can such an heartless monster like this exist? The worst is that he show himself to be a likable and reasonable man at first, until you see past that facade and you see that swirling mess of ambition, hatred and envy. What is worse is also the maniac gaggle of sub-human parasites he surround himself with. People who feed off the pain and misfortune of others.The author made a great story, he elicited so much feelings in me through each of his characters: Sistina, Phynis, Desa, even some of the antagonists touched me in a way.The gods like to play with our fates, but we can fight against it. Nothing is written in stone. If there was a moral to the story I think it would be this or like Sistina said "Our lives are our own, love, live."I'm so sad that it is finished already! Thanks mister Medrano. I received an ARC of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.So, here it is! The much awaited conclusion to the Ancient Dreams trilogy! And what a conclusion it is. Every plot thread gets tied up in a satisfactory way, and our villain gets a very fitting punishment for his heinous crimes.It was fantastic seeing all of his plans, which had seemed like they were going to succeed regardless of what our heroines did, crumble around him just when he thought he was going to win it all. I was especially fond of how Wenris' plot thread concluded.The focus once again swings around between various characters, but the storytelling remains tight and doesn't wander about like some can when dealing with multiple viewpoints. A couple of characters only get the story from their PoV for a short while, but it's never done for no reason and always advances the plot in a meaningful way.The romance remains understated, rather than dominating everything, but it's still cute and sweet when it does get focus. Phynis is going to be a very busy woman in the future, between running Everium/Beacon and all her lovers!On the whole, this trilogy has been fantastic to read, and I really look forward to Benjamin's next book.
